Celebrate with us this fall

This coming October, we will be "Celebrating 5 years of FUN on the Farm" with the 5th annual Experience the Farm! Five years ago, we decided to open our farm up to the public on fall weekends for folks to enjoy a corn maze, hayrides, pumpkins, hot chocolate, campfires, farm tours, and much, much more!!!

We have been blessed beyond belief of the people that have joined us over the years! We have hosted thousands of families and have seen them making those long-lasting fall family memories!

In honor of our 5th season, we have dedicated our corn maze to Celebrating the 5 years of FUN that we have had and hopefully you have had too!!

The Great Indiana State Fair

I love the Indiana State Fair.

I have always loved the Indiana State Fair.

I have been to many a fair and none compare to my Indiana State Fair.

I haven't missed a state fair since I can remember.

I have pretty much grown up at the Indiana State Fair.

I learned about boys at the Indiana State Fair... shhh don't tell!!

I learned what hard work was at the Indiana State Fair.

I learned that hard work pays off at the Indiana State Fair.

I learned that life isn't about winning at the fair.

I have learned that some of your strongest friendships can be with those you see and spend time with at the Indiana State Fair. Even if you only see them a couple times a year.

Carrot Cake - 2 Maids a Baking

First off, SO sorry about last week!! I was so busy I didn't even realize it was Tuesday until noon... In fact, my hubby knew I missed last week and he just came in the house and said, "Tomorrow is 2 Maids a Baking day..." I am lucky to have him!!

I am super excited to share this post with you!! Not because carrot cake is one of my favorite cakes, because it is!! But more importantly I got to make a great friends babies 1st birthday cake!! Check out proud mommy, Meggie from Hoosier Farm Babe and her blog post about the festivities here!!

On to the recipe!

Start by grating your carrots. I actually toss them in the food processor.

In a mixing bowl add oil

sugar

and eggs.

Mix.

Add the carrots.

and vanilla.

Mix the dry ingredients.

Add mixture to the mixing bowl.

Mix.

Spray your pans, I always add a parchment circle so the cake doesn't stick to the bottom.

Fill your pans. I used two 8 inch pans and had some batter left over for cupcakes!

Let the cake cool and then cut the top off.

Fill the cake with your frosting. For this cake I used buttercream frosting but cream cheese icing would be great!!

Add icing to the rest of the cake.

Smooth and place in the fridge or freezer.

For this cake I wanted to make fondent flowers.

Roll the fondent out thin.

Use a cookie cuter with your favorite shape.

Cover your cake with fondent.

Smooth out the sides.

Attach the cutouts by using a little bit of water.

And your done!! Happy Birthday Ray Ray!!!

Carrot Cake:

3 cups oil
3 cups sugar
8 eggs
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 tablespoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons nutmeg
6 cups carrots
4 cups flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a mixing bowl mix together oil, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add carrots. In a separate bowl mix baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and flour. Add the dry ingredients to the mixing bowl and mix. Bake for 35 minutes or until done.

Here a spot, there a spot

 everywhere a spot, spot!!!

Did you know that Holstein cows all look different?? It's true! Although they are generally black and white - they are so cool because their spot patterns will always be different! (I tell the kids on my farm tours that their spots are like our finger prints or even like snow flakes - they are all different!)

I was out walking through the farm the other day and grabbed my camera so that I could show you what I mean...

Take a look at these girls:

Some have little spots,

Some have big spots,

And some don't have hardly any spots!

Some have funky spots that look like things - any thoughts?!?! (Give me an "F"!)

And some - aren't Holsteins - oops!!! (How did she sneak in there?!)

Even the babies look different:

And, my personal favorite - their noses have different spot patterns!!

Ugh, I guess she wasn't ready yet!

Are you seeing spots now? We do every day!!
