Take me out with the crowd.

Hoosier Sugar Cream Pie - 2 Maids a Baking Linky

If you have ever had or heard of sugar cream pie you are either;

1. Amish
2. From Indiana
3. Spent time in Indiana

Okay so you are probably not Amish, since you are on the computer!

Sugar Cream Pie is the official Indiana state pie!! You know like a state flower or state bird. We in Indiana also have a state pie!! If your state doesn't have a pie you are missing out!!

This recipe comes from an Amish cookbook and it is the best sugar cream pie!! I also happen to love this recipe because you mix the pie in the shell... yes, no extra dirty dishes!!

Start by mixing up your crust. I use a never fail pie crust recipe that is perfect for this pie!

Add the flour.

Add the sugar and salt.

Measure out the cream (I picked Dean's because that is the company we sell our milk too!)

Add slowly to the pie shell.

Mix with your fingers!! Be gentle, you don't want to mess up the bottom of the crust.

Measure your milk. I recommend whole milk. It makes it taste that much better!

Add vanilla to the milk and mix.

Add to the pie. Do not mix. I repeat do not mix! Resist the temptation!!

Pinch off little pieces of butter and place gently on the top of the filling.

Sprinkle with cinnamon.

And nutmeg.

Bake, just so you know the center will still be bubbly and wiggly.

Refrigerate and serve cold. The Perfect Pie for the 4th of July!!

Sugar Cream Pie

4 Tbl. flour
2 Tbl. cold butter
1 cup sugar
1 pinch salt
1 cup cream
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
cinnamon
nutmeg

Pour the flour in the crust. Add the sugar and salt. Measure and pour the cream into the pie crust. Mix with your fingers. Measure out the milk and add the vanilla, stir. Add to the pie crust. Do not stir. Dot cold butter on top of pie. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.

Bake at 350 for 1 1/2 hours. Center will be bubbly and still wiggly. Let cool and refrigerate. Serve cold.

Never Fail Pie Crust

You can't go wrong with a great pie crust. I have used many different recipes and this is my favorite!! Rumor has it that the family that gave me the recipe got it from an Amish cookbook!

You start by measuring out your dry ingredients.

Bucket Blogs

We were asked a few weeks ago if we wanted to participate in the "Bucket Blogs" and my answer was YES, YES, YES!!!!

Many thanks to Red Hill General Store for donating buckets to anyone who wanted to participate in the Real Farmwives of America & Friends group! They were gracious enough to mail each and every one of us a bucket. They are different shapes, sizes, and even different colors! And, the best part is - you can win a bucket too! The Real Farmwives of America & Friends are having a give-a-way on their website and one lucky reader will win a Galvanized Embossed Tub from Red Hill General Store.

So, I happen to love buckets! In fact, my hub laughs at me because I LOVE a new bucket. I just happen to have quite a few sitting around - inside, outside, here and there! So, this was a definite yes for me - I knew that I wanted a new bucket!!

My bucket arrived just a few days ago and I was really excited! It's fantastic - I got the 2.25 gallon oval tub. It's a great size to use outdoors as a planter or a centerpiece BUT since it is new - I decided to use it 'in the home' for now and save 'in the garden' for later!!

I asked my kids to think about how they would use this tub and I got anywhere from a hat to a toy tractor bin, to a baby bathtub and even to a shoe! (You know who said that!!)

So, I thought about ways I could use my tub and quite frankly - I thought of a lot of them! Since I haven't had a whole lot of time with my new tub, I've only tried a couple so far...

It's a Dirty Job with the Real Farmwives of America

There are a lot of "dirty" jobs on a dairy farm! In fact, when I told some of the guys what my "dirty job" post was going to be about they thought I was kidding!

No really... especially one picture we will get to soon. But, before we go there I wanted to show you some pictures of my drive to the dairy.

A Girl and her Shoes!

My Wild One (now 5 yrs.) definitely has a thing for shoes! If you come to my house to visit and leave your shoes by the front door, I GUARANTEE at some point during your visit, she will come out wearing them! She LOVES shoes! I would say that on an average day, she will put on maybe 5 different pairs of shoes. If we are home all day, that number easily goes to 10!!! She has a pair of shoes for nearly every occasion and even every time of the day! No kidding!

In fact, tonight when she was heading to bed, she put a pair of flip flops by the edge of her bed and asked me not to move them because they were her "morning shoes"!!! I kid you not! My girl loves shoes!

In case you missed it, I posted last year about some of her shoe collection: Wild One's shoes.

So, she recently turned 5 and here are some photos of her BD presents:

Peanut Butter Truffle Brownies - 2 Maids a Baking Linky

Welcome to this week's 2 Maids a Baking!!

As soon as I saw this recipe on Sweet Pea's Kitchen I knew I had to make it!! This recipe has yum written all over it! I even had some helpers!!

Preheat oven to 350F. Butter the bottom and sides of a 9 by 13 inch metal baking pan. Put a long piece of parchment paper in the bottom of the pan, letting the parchment extend up two sides of the pan and overhang slightly on both ends. (This will make it easy to remove the bars from the pan after they have baked.) Butter the parchment.

Melt the butter and add the sugar; stir to combine. Beat in eggs and vanilla until combined.

Mix in cocoa, baking powder and salt.

Add flour and stir until just combined and no streaks of dry ingredients remain.

Pour into prepared pan and spread into an even layer. Bake for bake 25-30 minutes. Let cool completely in pan on a cooling rack.

While the brownies are cooling, make the peanut butter filling. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the ingredients and beat until smooth. Add more milk if necessary to make it spreadable.

Spread in an even layer over the brownies. Place in the refrigerator until filling is set, about 30 minutes.

While the filling is setting, make the ganache, combine the ingredients in a double boiler or in a microwave safe bowl. Melt together and combine. Pour the ganache over the top and spread gently.

Return to the fridge until set.

Enjoy with an ice cold glass of milk!!

For the Brownies:
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
3 teaspoons vanilla
2/3 cup cocoa powder
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder

For the Peanut Butter Filling:
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup peanut butter
2 cups powdered sugar
3 teaspoons milk

For the Ganache Topping:
1/4 cup peanut butter
2 cups chocolate chips
1/4 cup butter
2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream

Baked Brie - 2 Maids a Baking

Happy Tuesday!! Thanks to those who linked up last week!! This week I whipped up a quick and easy appetizer that tastes like you worked on it for hours!

I love using the log Brie it works great for this recipe! Pillsbury came out with the seamless crescent rolls, sweet!! You can also use puff pastry!

Start by rolling out your dough

Cut the Brie almost in half and score the inside

Spoon on your favorite jam. I used apricot because that was what I had opened!

Smear! Technical cooking term!!

Grab a handful of mixed fruit, you could also use nuts, brown sugar, etc.

Place the log on the dough.

Wrap it up

Finsh and flip over so the seam in on the bottom

Cut off the ends

I made rolls for dinner with them!

Bake

Let cool for about 10 minutes

Yummy!!

Ingredients:
1 large sheet of puff pastry or one tube of crescent rolls seamless dough
1 log or round of Brie
Seedless Jam - I used Apricot
Dried mixed fruit

Bake at 375 degrees for 12-15 (longer if you are using a round brie) minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.

So what has been baking in your kitchen!?!?
