Never Fail Pie Crust

You can't go wrong with a great pie crust. I have used many different recipes and this is my favorite!! Rumor has it that the family that gave me the recipe got it from an Amish cookbook!

You start by measuring out your dry ingredients.

Mix

Add your shortening.

Mix

Mix until pebble size.

In a small bowl mix the liquid ingredients.

Add to the flour mixture.

Mix until blended. Sprinkle some flour a solid surface.

Knead the dough a couple times.

Roll out to about a 1/4 inch thick.

Cut off the extra.

Fold in half.

Move to a sprayed pie pan.

Unfold.

Tuck the extra crust under.

Use your thumb on your left hand and your thumb and first finger on either side of the thumb to help shape your crust.

Will with your favorite pie filling and enjoy!!

Never Fail Pie Crust

1 tsp. salt
2 tsp granulated sugar
1 3/4 cup shortening
1 egg
1 tsp white vinegar

Recipe makes enough crust for a 10 inch double crust pie.

  1. This looks like what my grandma did, except she never measured a thing, and her pies were always marvelous. I watched her make pies, but I was too young to think about having her measure things so I could duplicate her wonderful recipes.
