"Is the drink included?"

Now that I am a mom purchasing not one or two but THREE kids meals when (if) we go out to eat; this is the question that I find myself asking over and over "Is the drink included?!!" If you are a mother - you know exactly what I mean!!!

So, I understand that the restaurant needs to make money and if they need to charge more for the kid's drinks then fine. My preference would be that they just charge more for the meal and include it!! Why does it feel like you are getting such a bargain when things are included?!?! But, my kids are beginning to understand that if the drink is not included - then they get to drink water! It's expensive enough purchasing 3 meals let alone 3 drinks!

BUT - here's one that gets my goat... And, this happened to me just last week at a restaurant that I dearly love but will be nice and not mention any names!! I only had two kids with me this particular day because we were having a lunch date (fun!) and I asked my infamous question "Are the drinks included?" Our waitress responded with a "yes." Great! I was happy to hear this and proceeded to order two milks. To my shock and horror, she said, "Well, if you want milk - it will cost extra." WHAT!?!?!?!?

She went on to tell me that coke, diet, mt dew, root beer, etc. were all included but milk was extra. I just couldn't believe this! Of course, I had to mention to her that milk is the healthiest choice for a 2 and a 4 year old to drink and that I was really shocked that they wouldn't include it in the list of choices for kid's drinks. With it's abundant amount of calcium, protein, Vit D, Vit A, Vit C - how could I even consider giving my child a coke vs. a glass of milk! And, for that matter - it only costs $2.48 for a gallon - how could they charge $1.99 for a glass?!?! (Poor lady - don't mess with me and milk!!)

Needless to say, I guess this brings me back to this is why we very rarely eat out! It is expensive with 5 people but more importantly, at my restaurant - my kids can drink milk ANY time they want at no extra charge!!

  3. That is a great point. If it's a kid friendly restaurant then they should totally offer milk!

  4. Great points Amy!! I must ask where you buy your milk though! The only place I can get it that cheap is Aldi...$1.99. Any other place it is $3.29 and up!

  5. Sounds to me like they need to talk to a dietician and a dentist to understand why they should charge more for soda and less for milk! And we wonder what is wrong with society these days!

  10. I so feel your pain. Miss Add wants nothing but her milk when we go out. I would have been livid if that happened to me!
