New Year's Day

New Year's Day is a special holiday on our farm!!

The beginning of a new year, new plans, new goals, new ideas and certainly lots of new memories!!

I have celebrated New Year's Eve with my hub for 14 years now and it seems like every one has had a special memory! I will never forget our last NYE as singletons... We had a party at his brother's house and invited lots of friends. Everyone had a great time and I specifically remember how we stood around 'awaiting' the chaos of 2000! Funny when nothing changed!!!! This was also 15 days before we got married, so things were a little crazy that year!

My first NYE as a married woman was also eventful! We had the pleasure of milking the cows that night (unexpectedly!) at the midnight shift. This was my FIRST experience milking! We worked together and spent the entire night in the parlor. I helped a little but mainly kept the coffee flowing and provided company to my hub! But, quite a memorable year!!!!

Through the years, we've celebrated mainly with gatherings of friends at our house and with lots of children! I happen to love NYE and just love to host a big party complete with tons of food, lots of games and confetti and noise makers at midnight!!!!

Our New Year celebration isn't complete until we have lunch at my hub's Grandma's house on NY Day. She has a big meal with all of the special holiday foods! It's a MUST in this family to eat some cabbage -- Even the little ones have to take a bite!

This New Year's will be yet another one that we will remember forever. My blogging partner, Liz, will be marrying my brother in law! We've been excited for this day for years!! Here's to a life together full of love and happiness! And, Liz - welcome to the family! We love you!!!

Happy New Year to all!

Holiday Cheer

For the last two years my fiancé and I along with Amy and her family have been blessed with the opportunity to help with our county's Holiday Cheer Food Basket delivery. Our County Young Farmers group meets for breakfast early on Christmas Eve and then we pick up the food baskets and deliver them to families in need.

What should w e have for breakfast?

The baskets contain all the food you would need to fix Christmas dinner and then some extra to help stock the pantry shelves. We really appreciate the opportunity to help others in our community and are thankful for the time to serve and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.

Now that's some milk!

Oh yeah and we had fun! Potatoes anyone?!

This year it hit home more so than in the past. After we delivered our food baskets my fiancĂ© and I sat in the mobile home parking lot tears in our eyes talking about how lucky and thankful we are for everything we have. This past month has been especially hard for me and my family. I lost my brother the day before Thanksgiving and it is just now starting to sink in that he won’t be at our wedding. While we will never understand why or why it happened when it did we know he will be with us on our special day. I hope you all had a very blessed Christmas and have a happy New Year! The next time you hear from me I will be a married woman!!

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree!

Thy leaves are so unchanging;

Not only green when summer's here,

But also when 'tis cold and drear.

O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!

Thy leaves are so unchanging!

Yes - the leaves are green but they are not unchanging!! They are falling out on my living room floor!!!!!

However, I do love a REAL tree! I grew up with them and love to have one in the house. We've had artificial trees since we've been married but decided to go for the real tree this year and I'm so happy we did!

The experience of choosing the right tree, cutting it down, shaking it and bundling it up to bring it home was terrific with the kids! We went on a really snowy morning which made it all the better!!!! Take a look...

And, check out our little friend that we met along the way! He was helpful in leading us to the trees!!

At the end of the day, we had some fantastic memories and a beautiful tree that we can enjoy this season!!
